Communication is the key to your success...

Diabetic Weight Loss

FAQ Page 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,

Q: Do you accept insurance or medicare?
A: No, I'm sorry but I don’t. Both have specific requirements which I am not eligible for and both would dramatically increase your cost. I try to run my business as “lean and mean” as possible. This translates into my being able to spend my time working with you rather than working with your insurance company.

Q: Why do you have a waiting list?
A: Most of my referrals come from family doctors who I have worked with in the past. They have patients who have recently been diagnosed with diabetes and refer them to me. I also have many of my clients refer other family members who also have diabetes. A small percentage of my clients are those who simply find my website.

Q: Since you’re not local I’m not sure how you can help me with my diabetes. Don’t you have to examine me or something?
A: I am not a doctor. Instead I rely upon your doctor to approve your Diabetic Weight Management health and fitness plan and to help me monitor your progress. Everything you and I will do will be done using the Internet. I’ve invested quite a lot of money in a private communication system to ensure you receive all information from me and to protect your privacy.

Q: The ADA is claiming that sugar is ok for me and that sugar really isn't the problem. I am so confused. Is sugar bad or not?
A: I understand your confusion and your frustration. This is all I will say about the topic, ask yourself this, "Has the ADA clearly identified what is the culprit if not sugar? Do they have a ten or fifteen year study to prove conclusively that eating *158lbs of sugar a year will not effect your blood sugar levels? Have they been able to provide a solution? If they now have the answer to what causes diabetes, they also have the solution, which means they are ready to close up shop because diabetes will be eradicated and they no longer need funding. Is this the case?" *According to new U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) data, sugar consumption in 1999 was 158 pounds per person and has gone up steadily every year since then.

Q: Will your Diabetic Weight Management program cure my diabetes?
A: I am not a doctor. I can neither treat you nor cure you. The program can help anyone who wants better health to achieve a higher level of health and losing weight by simply learning to eat the foods. It doesn't matter if you're currently in good health or have diabetes or have any other disease. The program will help your body to heal itself and lose weight. Holistic health is about providing your body with the tools and support it needs to heal itself and then maintain it's health. It's not about a specific disease. Your doctor must approve the program and must be willing to monitor the program in order for you to access the program.

Q: I tried Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers but none of them worked for me. They sold me because of their commercials and all the testimonials they had on their site. Why don’t you have testimonials on your site? I think you'd have a lot more clients if you did.
A: Fortunately, having more clients is not an issue for me. I stay busy. To answer your question, I work closely with doctors and chiropractors and it's important that I follow the same HIPAA guidelines they do to ensure the medical confidentiality and privacy of my clients. Both my website and the way I stay in contact with you must be secure. For this reason each client receives their own software program to install on their computer. All information I share with you will be sent directly to you via this program. This is a "direct line" of communication between your computer and mine. Each of my clients will have their own "direct line" once their doctor has approved their program. Once they've completed the Diabetic Weight Management program I will automatically uninstall (unplug) their "direct line" from my computer.

Q: I heard that you have a criteria for determining if you’re going to work with someone or not. Can you tell me what conditions would prevent you from working with someone with diabetes?
A: Although I try to help as many people as I can, I am just one person. Therefore, I limit myself to working only with those I can help. This way I maximize my time and can help those who really want to lose weight and manage their diabetes. People I can not work with are those with Type 1 Diabetes or who are currently taking insulin shots. And, people who I will not work with are those who smoke, chew tobacco, take recreational drugs, and drink alcohol or those who have mental or neurological disorders. I am not qualified to assist these groups of people.

Q: My doctor is suggesting that I start thinking about taking insulin shots. I really don’t want to. I’m desperate for another alternative. How long will I have to wait before you can help me?
A: If you’re doctor is recommending insulin shots then ask him if you can try something else first. If he agrees then download the paperwork available when you register and get it completed ASAP. Be sure to attach a note requesting priority because your doctor is recommending insulin shots. I won’t guarantee anything but I will do my best to move you quickly up the list.

Q: I want you to know that I followed your recommendation to quit drinking coffee. (I would have anyway after you told me what it was doing to my intestines.) I really didn't believe that it would do anything for my cellulite but it did. I'm starting to see my pudgy fat disappear. No more "golf ball" thighs. I might even wear shorts this summer! My question is why does caffeine do this?
A: What most people don't realize is that caffeine is actually a poison or venom that the plant has created to keep predators away from it. This is the reason why your heart speeds up and your adrenal glands start working overtime. They are responding to your body being poisoned. You would have the same effect if a snake bit you. The only difference is that the snake bite would be more immediate and fast acting. caffeine on the other hand is slow acting and not as dangerous. Over the years you've been pouring caffeine into your body and slowly poisoning it. Your body has been storing this toxin/poison in your connective tissues. caffeine is one of the causes of cellulite. Other causes are the trans-fats you were eating and the artificial sweeteners you were using.

Q: My wife and doctor have been trying to get me to contact you about a custom plan for my diabetes. To be honest I just didn't want to deal with it. I saw what it did to my father. I saw my father's health slowly deterioate until diabetes finally killed him. I saw him gain weight even though he was following the recommended diet and starving himself. I told my doctor that I couldn't afford you. That was my excuse. My doctor finally got me to contact you when he asked me if I had $5000 in my pocket and someone had a gun to my head and wanted to rob me would I quibble about the money or let robber kill me so I could keep the money? He told me that diabetes was the robber with the gun to my head and was going to be robbing me of my health if I didn't do something. I want you to know this is the best thing I've ever done. This is easy. I'm probably eating better than I ever ate before and I never feel deprived. My question am I the only one who just didn't want to deal with their diabetes or do others have the same problem?
A: I don't really think it's a matter of not wanting to deal with it. I believe it's a matter of not really knowing what they can do about it. Like you they see others suffering from diabetes. On highly restrictive diets. Who always seem miserable and they simply don't want to live that kind of life. Sometimes they are so against it that they tend to be self-destructive. My mother is like this. She was struggling with her diabetes. I gave her some food that would help her with it. She loved it. Then I made the mistake of telling her that it was good for her diabetes. She refused to eat it again. To eat it would mean that she would have to travel down a long and difficult road. Little did she realize that the diabetic road was a lot more difficult.

Q: Why don’t you accept clients who are already on insulin? I really want to lose weight and manage my diabetes better. I’ve tried on my own but I simply can’t do it. Would you reconsider?
A: The only time that I reconsider this is when I have a direct referral from a doctor that I’ve worked with in the past. The reason is that once you start taking insulin that changes the chemistry of your body. Working with doctors I’ve worked with in the past means that they're already familiar with the success of my program for their clients and will help me to closely monitor their patient. Doctors I have not worked with are more difficult to work with because we have no previous history of success.

Q: How many clients can you work with at one time?
A: Because of the enormous amount of time required to create a custom Diabetic Weight Management program, conduct phone consultations and follow up with my clients on a weekly basis the maximum number of clients I can assist at any one time is twenty per month. However, I try to keep my maximum to fifteen because I want to ensure that each of my clients receives the maximum benefit.

Q: I've suffered from constipation for years and never knew what caused it. It never occurred to me that water and having my gallbladder removed would effect my bowel movements. I also didn't realize just how dangerous using stool softners were. Thanks to you I've effectively eliminated the need to have hemmroid surgery. Why don't doctors know this?
A: Like everyone else doctors have different levels of skills and knowledge. I find that doctors who are not associated with a hospital tend to be better than those who are. The reason for this based upon my working with the disabled is that the doctors who are working for a hospital are being told by the hospital administration how to be a doctor. How long they can spend with each patient. What they can drugs and therapy they can prescribe. They also have the drug companies sending their drug reps trying to push various medications on to their patients. And, they have health insurance companies who have nurses who make the final decision on how your condition should be treated. Effectively allowing insurance companies to practice medicine without a medical license. It literally took me more than 20 years to find a doctor who could correctly diagnose my medical problem. It was something that all the other doctors should have caught the first time. In the end it wasn't even a doctor it was a licensed physician assistant who correctly diagnosed my medical problem.

Q: Can you tell me more about this communication system that you use to communicate with your clients?
A: The system is similar to what Fortune 500 companies pay $10,000 and more to stay in contact with each other. It’s a bit difficult to describe. Basically, I create a computer file that you’ll download and install on your computer. Every time I want to communicate some information to you I update the file and you’ll see a window pop up in the lower right hand corner of your monitor. It will let you know that I’ve updated your file and you should take a look at the information. This completely bypasses email which has become more and more unreliable due to spamming. It also ensures your privacy and the confidentiality of your medical problems as no one else will have access to your information.

Q: What do you think of the Zone Diet? Should I try it?
A: I won’t make any comments on any diets. I believe that the fact that most of these types of diets have been on the market for more than five years and the fact that diabetes and obesity is still on the rise is testament to how effective these fad diets are.

Q: i'm a type 2 diabetic and I'm thinking of going on a fast to lose weight. Do you think that's a good idea?
A: I won’t recommend fasting this on your own especially if you're diabetic. You could have problems with your blood sugar dropping too low. Always be sure to have your doctor's permission to do something like this. I would also recommend that if you do a fast that you do not do it with commercial fruit or vegetable juices. These can play havoc on your system. You have to know how to prepare your body for the fast and how to break your fast correctly or that can also play havoc on your system. One thing to keep in mind is that fasting is not about losing weight. Fasting is about giving your body a vacation. The larges percentage of energy your body uses is for the processing of the food you ingest. When you fast this give your body time to recover and heal itself. I personally do a three to four day fast every month.

Q: How did you come to choose to specialize in diabetes?
A: My family has a history of diabetes. My 70 year old mother is currently in a nursing home because of her diabetes. She doesn’t have to be but she’s one of those people who refuses to help herself. I saw first hand what diabetes did to her and didn’t want to go down the same road. I conducted a lot of research on diabetes and discovered why people were failing to manage their diabetes. This gave me the information I needed to ensure that I wouldn't go down the same dangerous road.

Q: Do you eat the same meals that you recommend?
A: Yes, I do indeed. I first test everything out on myself. I practice what I preach. That’s how I know if you cheat. I can tell if you really used the recipe or have changed the food item I recommended because I know what to expect.

Q: As much as I love your meals the one thing I found that I really love is the money I'm saving on groceries. How can I pay more for groceries and be saving so much?
A: I know it sounds contradictory doesn't it. What you're doing is purchasing higher quality food that satisfies your body. You're no longer buying soda, cookies, chips or wasting your money buying hamburgers and chicken at the fast food restaurants. People are always amazed at how much money they were spending. One client told me that she used to stop at the convenience store every morning on her way to work and buy a $1 coke and she spent another $5 on snacks for her kids. She repeated this in the evening on the way home. The result was that she was spending $240/mo at that convenience store. That didn't count the money she was wasting at lunch time when she went out or the money she wasted on the weekends on chips and other "goodies". Perhaps $240/mo doesn't sound like a lot but you figure that's $2880 a year.

Q: My sister-in-law tricked me into drinking one of your chocolate milk shakes. It was delicious. I never drank anything so rich and creamy before. Can a diabetic really drink something like this?
A: Be sure to ask your sister-in-law to make up a Peanut Butter Cup milkshake for you or an Almond Joy they’re also very good. As to your question, yes it is permissible for diabetics to drink one or two of these a week. These milkshakes are highly nutritious and designed to help you lose weight.

Q: My husband has diabetes and recently had a stroke. Do you think you could still be able to help him?
A: I understand about strokes. I had one myself about two years ago and it took me a few years to recover. Although I can't do anything to help you with other problems associated with the stroke I can help you with the diabetes part. I believe what you may find that as his health improves so will the likelihood of him not having another stroke.

Q: My mother referred me to you. I saw how successful she was in losing weight and managing her diabetes and want to get control over mine. This is a little embarrassing but I’m also starting to become incontinent. Do you think this would help me to improve my bladder control?
A: This would depend upon the cause of your incontinence. In most cases I’ve been able to help others with this problem. There’s a rather simple exercise you can do that will help you in this area.

Q: How quickly can I lose weight and how much will I lose?
A: I really can’t tell you. Without your medical history and knowing your current health or how much you’re overweight it would be impossible to say. The only thing I can say is that those with a lot of weight to lose usually lose the most within the first two to three months. Then it’s pretty steady after that.

Q: My doctor told me that I also have an under active thyroid. That this is one of the reasons for me gaining so much weight. Is this true?
A: If you’re a diabetic then having an under active thyroid aka hypothyroidism is rather common. Yes, it’s true that an under active thyroid is a contributing factor to gaining weight. This is something that will be addressed in your custom Diabetic Weight Management plan.

Q: What if this doesn’t work for me. Will I still owe you something?
A: Unlike a weight loss clinic I don’t have you sign a contract with me. If your Diabetic Weight Management plan is not working for you all you have to do is let me know you want to cancel. No hard feelings. The last thing I want is for you to be wasting your money on something that’s not working for you.

Q: I love all the meals! I don't believe I've ever eaten so well! The hawiian chicken is delicious. I'm losing weight around my tummy and fat is disappearing everywhere. My husband loves the new me. I was wondering why you don't recommend aerobics? I've always heard that you can burn more calories with aerobics and should get your heart rate up.
A: For someone who is physically fit and perhaps a few pounds overweight aerobics is fine. It won't hurt them. But for people I work with who are usually 50lbs or more overweight their heart is already under enough stress and it really doesn't need any more. Aerobics has several problems for people who are physically unfit and overweight. First, the body quickly acclimates itself to the level you're at. Meaning if you run 15 minutes and use 50 calories your body will quickly adapt to this so in a few days you have to run 20 minutes to lose the same 50 calories. Then 30 minutes and 45. Whereas if you use the exercises I recommend you don't have to keep pushing yourself harder and harder for the same caloric burn. The second problem is that once you stop doing the aerobic exercises then you also stop burning the calories. With the exercises I recommend your body will continue to burn calories up to five hours after you stop. If you've ever been to the gym and notice that the women on the aerobic machines don't seem to have lost any weight although they come in faithfully day after day for months -- they're still the same weight.

Q: Have you ever been overweight or are you one of those people who have always been fit and maybe gained five pounds and thought you were fat?
A: Yes, I have been overweight. At one time I was up to 270lbs, had a 50 inch waist and had been in the ER four to five times within an 18 month period due to chronic infection. Like many others I wasn't overeating. I was working out at the gym, doing tai-chi, watching my calories, ate very little sweets and rarely drank sodas. I was doing everything I was told I was supposed to do to eat healthy. Still I gained weight. My last time in the ER I almost died of Septicemia that's when I decided to get serious and find out exactly what was going wrong. After suffering from sinus infections for more than 20 years my current doctor was able to help me identify the cause of my infections. I did the research, found a solution and started losing weight immediately. Fat just melted away once I learned everything I thought I knew about eating healthy was wrong. To answer your question, yes I do know what it's like to be grossly overweight and the frustration of trying to lose weight and having nothing work.

Q: I'm a little more than 30lbs overweight. I know that strength training is recommended for weight loss. I enjoy doing strength training but looking for something a little more challenging than the usual. I understand that you have a program called the "45 Degree" do you have any videos available for purchase?
A: At the moment I don't have any videos. It's on my "to do" list but frankly this is keeping me very busy. I'm lucky if I get to the gym most weeks. If there's enough interest I'll make some time for them. My clients are getting a lot of muscle gain from the workout. Which of course translates into weight loss. It's based in part on Mike Mentzer's program. I modified his system with static training. In the meantime you should check out HardBodyTrainer.com. They have an excellent program for strength training and online videos.

Q: Doctor Turner said you were the best at helping people like me. Thank you for putting me on the priority list. I really didn't want to start taking insulin shots. You have no idea how depressed I was when Doc told me that was my next step. Just in a matter of weeks my blood sugar levels have stabalized and Doc says that my insulin sensitivity has improved. I'm still not sure what my thyroid has to do with my heart but Doc just took me off of Toprol. I tell you I was really scared when my heart starting beating so quickly. Being Sunday I had no one to call. I submitted a support ticket and you explained to me what was going on. I went to the ER like you said. Then I went to see the Doc the next day and you were right. I no longer needed the medicine. Can you tell me more about this healing crisis?
A: The thing to remember is that everything in your body effects everything else. In your case your hypothyroid condition was placing a strain on your heart. You were taking two medications which could do the same thing. But one was for your thyroid and the other was for your heart skipping a beat. Your thyroid was getting better so this meant you had less strain on your heart. It started beating normally but your Toprol was still effecting your heart as if it still had a problem. What you experienced on Sunday was what we call a "healing crisis". This is when the body goes through from being sick to being well. In this time period it may look and feel like you're actually doing worse. You can have headaches, rapid pulse, sweating, fever, etc... as your body goes through the last vestige of throwing off the illness. Doctor Turner has seen this "healing crisis" before and knew what to expect. This is why I take referrals from doctors I've worked with in the past.

Q: Your fees sound quite high to me. Why do you charge so much?
A: Actually, my fees are very low. The difference is that I’m not going to nickel and dime you to death. I don’t sell supplements, books, equipment, videos, seminars or anything else. Also unlike other health professionals I am in almost daily contact with you -- monitoring your progress and making modifications as you go. Bottomline: My only business is your health and fitness.

Q: I’m very happy with the weight I’m losing and for the first time I’m starting to see my diabetes get under control. I can't believe how easy it was to lose 15lbs. I've been trying for years to do what I just did in two months. Why don’t you write a book and let others know about this amazing program?
A: I wish it were as simple as sitting down and writing a book. However, the reason why diets fail is that they attempt to give you a “one size fits all” program that doesn’t fit you. Each person is different. Each person has different levels of health. Each person has different medical problems. Each person has their own physical limitations. Each person has a different lifestyle. The only way you can achieve the success you’re achieving is by my creating a customized Diabetic Weight Management plan for you, staying in regular contact with you and modifying and fine-tuning your plan to ensure your success.

Q: I’m thinking of purchasing an abrocker. Would you recommend this for helping me lose weight?
A: There’s a lot of gimmicks out there. The sad thing about infomercial products is that most of them could actually be good if they weren’t made so cheaply. The reality is that you don’t need an abrocker to lose weight. I have two or three very simple exercises you can do that will be much more effective than an abrocker.

Q: Six years ago my doctor put my on medicine for my hypertension. When I asked him how long I was going to have to be on it he told me it would probably be for the rest of my life because hypertension only gets worse. Today, I came back from the doctor and I wanted to let you know that he's taken me off my medicine and told me I don't need it! Wow! He didn't reduce my diabetes medication this time but this is telling me that something is working. Can you explain why my diabetes medication wasn't reduced this time and how what I'm doing is effecting my hypertension?
A: I'm glad to hear that you doctor took you off your medication. Continue what you're doing and you may never have to return to it again. As to your question, although our focus is on your diabetes your whole body is sick. You have hypertension, diabetes, fibromyalgia and other health problems including sleep apnea. Unfortunately, no one can control what your body will give priority to as it heals itself. You simply have to trust your body to heal. Be patient with yourself the reduction in your diabetic medicine will come soon.

Q: I love this program!!!! I’m finally losing weight and my doctor is very impressed with my blood sugar levels. Twenty pounds just melted away. You have no idea how excited I am! One quick question, I love all the food you have for me but I’m discovering I’m really not as hungry as I used to be. I no longer have any cravings. Can I skip a meal or two?
A: I’m happy to hear that your Diabetic Weight Management program is working out so well for you. However, your Diabetic Weight Management program is designed for you to eat each meal. You can’t skip meals or you’ll end up where you started. I’ll take another look at your caloric intake and see if we can cut down a little more in that area.

Q: I have a problem with constipation. Would you be able to help me?
A: Most definitely. You’d be surprised at how many people with diabetes also are bothered by constipation. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you can eliminate this problem.

Q: Yipee! My doctor just took me off of insulin! Your program really does work. I can't believe it. I was afraid I'd have to take insulin shots for the rest of my life. Do you think I'm ready to fly solo, yet?
A: Congrats! Thanks to your doctor carefully monitoring your situation and willing to see you weekly we were able to reverse your situation and get you back on track. This is why I only work with those who are either pre-insulin or have just started insulin therapy. As to if you're ready to fly solo, that will be up to you and your doctor. I'd recommend two or three more weeks to ensure everything is going good but other than that I don't see why not.

Q: Are you going to make me chant, do yoga or any other weird stuff?
A: Not unless you want to. Where chanting and yoga do have their place it's something that is a matter of preference. As a rule I don't incorporate chanting or yoga unless you request them.
